Our Nuc boxes come from the Pacific Northwest with fully mated queens and are raised by a local and long-time beekeeper.
If you are looking for a hive that is already semi-established with the queen already laying eggs and brood already being raised, then one of our complete nuc boxes with bees might be just the right option for you.
When Nuc Boxes are made or "split" (as it is more commonly known), a queen is introduced to a very small colony of bees within the 5-frame nuc box. Once released from her cage, this queen will be fed and taken care of by the worker bees within that nuc box and will start laying eggs within a short period of time. Over the next few weeks, this small colony will be monitored and managed by the beekeeper making sure that the queen is laying eggs properly which includes making sure the queen was mated and isn't laying all drone eggs as well as making sure that the brood production is consistent and at adequate levels to perpetuate the colony so that it can thrive.
This is the benefit of purchasing a complete nuc box with bees, you won't need to monitor and manage this critical part of the beekeeping process as it is done for you. After about 6 weeks of this management, the complete nucs are then brought to us and are available for pick-up. A nuc box is basically half of a standard hive and only consists of 5 frames. When you pick your nuc box up, it will already be fairly full of eggs and brood so it is imperative that these frames are moved to a standard 8 or 10 frame hive with one or two days as the bees will swarm if they are getting overcrowded.
Nucs that are not picked up by 10:00am on Saturday, May 8, will be considered abandoned and will be sold to someone waiting on site. GloryBee cannot facilitate hiving any remaining packages and will sell hives to customers on our waiting list. We must sell all packaged bees before the end of the event on Saturday, May 8. We do not offer refunds for any bees not picked up.
GloryBee does not guarantee the successful establishment of a colony, hiving of the packaged bees or nuc box.
