Pecans are produced from a type of hickory tree native to Mexico and the Southeastern regions of the US. Today, pecans are predominately grown in Georgia, New Mexico, Texas and Mexico together making up for 93% of the world supply. Although, commonly referred to as a nut, pecans are technically a seed from a drupe which is a fruit with a single pit surrounded by a husk.
Pecans are a rich source of dietary fiber, manganese, magnesium, phosphorous, zinc and thiamine. Pecans are also a good source of protein, iron and B vitamins. The fat content is predominately comprised of healthy monounsaturated fats including oleic acid (approximately 57% on average) and the polyunsaturated fat linoleic acid (approximately 30% on average).
With a rich, buttery flavor our medium choice pecan pieces are the perfect size to use in cooking and baking. They work especially well as a topping for brownies, pies and cakes.
