Pecans are from the hickory tree family and originally grew wild in Mexico and the Southeastern parts of the US. Today, they are commercially grown in Georgia, New Mexico, Texas and Mexico together making up for 93% of the world supply. As a matter of fact, pecan trees are the official state tree of Texas. Like most other tree nuts, pecans are actually a seed from a drupe. A drupe is a fruit with a single pit surrounded by a husk.
A rich source of dietary fiber, manganese, magnesium, phosphorous, zinc and thiamine; pecans are also a good source of protein, iron and B vitamins. The fat composition includes the healthy monounsaturated fat, oleic acid at 57% on average and approximately 30% of the polyunsaturated fat, linoleic acid.

Product shelf life is dependent on storage conditions and is highly variable. Pecans should be stored under cool, dry conditions and in a humidity controlled environment. The industry standard for shelf life, when stored under optimum conditions, is 18 months from date of manufacture.
