Organic vanilla powder is made by grinding gently dried vanilla pods into a fine, tan colored, free-flowing powder. This powder is then blended with a sweetener which allows bakers, cooks, and manufacturers to include the classic vanilla flavor into their creations. Fresh vanilla beans can be very expensive and hard to work with. Retaining the same flavor as fresh beans, vanilla powder makes for a wonderful alternative in cooking and baking. In comparison to vanilla extract which normally uses alcohol as the carrier for the flavor, vanilla bean powder doesn't leave any sort of aftertaste. In addition, vanilla bean powder can withstand the high heat of baking while retaining the flavor whereas the flavor from vanilla extract can tend to burn off in high heat.
The suggested usage rate for vanilla bean powder is 1% by weight. It can be used to flavor a wide variety of different foods and beverages including buttercreams, dessert sauces, cookies, cakes, coffee, lattes and more. It is also delicious when mixed with sugar and used as a "vanilla sugar" to top desserts and other baked goods.
