The term “castile soap” is a common name used in English speaking countries for any vegetable based soap made in a style similar to that made in the Castile region of Spain. It is traditionally made with olive oil, but in modern times is made with any vegetable oil that produces a hard, white bar of soap. The origins of castile soap go back to a large area of land in the eastern Mediterranean where Aleppo soap makers have made soap with a base of olive and laurel oils for centuries.
Our castile soap base differs from our white soap base in that most of the coconut oil is replaced with 25%-30% Grade A Extra Virgin Olive Oil which is known to be gentle and moisturizing to the skin. Our castile soap base provides a dense, creamy lather and is available in 3 different sizes: 1 pound wrapped bars, 5 pound wrapped blocks and 43 pound bags. It is easy to cut into smaller chunks using a sharp knife.
